You can sell anything on Craigslist

The other day the question was asked “Can you sell a bag of Trash on Craigslist”?  This question interested me

Not everything is free

Not everything is free

because in Dan Ariely’s book “Predictably Irrational“, he discussed the behavior people exhibit when something is “Free.”  In short, our brains actually react differently when “Free” is offered instead of a price.  People quickly forget there are costs associated with anything that is “Free.”

It was quickly discovered if you actually post “I have a bag of trash,” it gets flagged.  Real Fast.  Not satisfied with the result, I made a post that described a bag of garbage without using those exact words.  The result?  Well, they surprised me.  After just 12 hours, I had to take down the post because I got tired of the emails.

Quick Re-Hello World

After a long time posting to cmiyc.com, an upgrade to WordPress, and two physical moves I just wanted to make sure the blog still works….

Just testing the upgrade to 2.2…

Serial Port List Utility

Download:OSX Serial Port Check (1.2mb)

A simple utility that checks for all of your Mac’s serial ports and copies the information to your clipboard.

Why are you spamming me?

Nobody at “cmiyc.com” or “cmiyc.org” will send you email. In fact, I don’t even have an outgoing mail server setup. So if you receive emails from me, a spammer is forging my domain name in the email headers.

There is little that can prevent this, since it is something that happens in between you and I. All I can say, it is perfectly safe to drop any emails that appear to come from “cmiyc.com”.

More information about this type of attack, referred to as a “Joe Job”, can be found in this Wikipedia Article.

Announcing: v0.5.0 of MacCaching

Version 0.5.0 of MacCaching can be downloaded from its own site at maccaching.com

Here is a direct link to MacCaching 0.5.0.

New Beta Build Available

Visit http://www.maccaching.com/latest for a “Christmas” build of MacCaching. Among the new features is an iPod Paperless Caching feature!

The Blog Has Moved…

MacCaching has taken off a little faster than I had thought. Turns out many others are interested in Mac-Geocaching software. Since cmiyc.com was a originally my personal site (and really my web sandbox), I’ve decided to move MacCaching. The first thing to go is the Blog. The main site is now: maccaching.com and the blog is maccaching.com/blog. Everything else (news, downloads, and latest) will be mirrored between the two sites for a month or so.

Geocaching 101 by Lifehacker

Lifehacker has put together a description of what they call the modern day pirate hunt. This is their way to honor the soon to be DVD, Pirates of the Caribbean movie coming to DVD. It describes the basics of Geocaching. This is probably a good article for friends you’d like to introduce to Geocaching.
